Customizing Your Estate Plan Step By Step

The Initial Estate Planning Process

Our office offers a free consultation to help you explore and determine your Estate Planning needs and design your plan to maximize tax benefits. We favor an education-based approach to setting up a Living Trust, and this includes a thorough understanding of your family dynamics, asset base and your wishes for the future of your loved ones and your wealth.

Step 1 - Complete Questionnaire: In order to take best advantage of the initial consultation, you will wish to complete our simple questionnaire and bring it with you. We are happy to help with completion of the questionnaire prior to your meeting and often can give you tips that may make contemplating these decisions easier, so please call or email us for assistance.

Step 2 - Initial Consultation: In this one-hour meeting, attorney Linda MacKay will review your information and collaborate with you to craft an individualized plan that suits your goals. If you already have a plan, she'll review and analyze the documents you have in place and advise you about recommended additions, changes, and updates. Ms. MacKay will also advise you about new tax and estate laws as they pertain to your individual situation, and ensure your assets are properly funded to the Living Trust.

Step 3 - Document Draft and Review: After the initial meeting, we draft your Living Trust and all related documents. When the draft is ready it is sent to you for review and approval.

Step 4 - Trust Signing: To finalize and execute your Trust, documents are signed with our office notary. You receive an organized binder with your Living Trust and Estate Planning documents ready for safekeeping.
